April 6, 2020 Covid-19 Update re Stimulus Payments

Good evening.  We hope you are all coping as well as possible with the State shelter in place order.  While we are closed for the remainder of the week, we will continue to update you with pertinent information. It is our plan to be back in the office on April 13th.  While the IRS and the Maine Revenue Services has extended the payment due date for any income taxes owed to July 15th, they have not extended the filing deadline for quarterly payroll taxes.

In the meantime, we carry on.

The IRS posted the following messages on their twitter account earlier today (4/6/20)

CONCERNING STIMULUS PAYMENTS:

Eligible people who filed taxes for 2019 or 2018 will automatically get an economic impact payment from #IRS in the next three weeks. Learn more at: irs.gov/coronavirus

CONCERNING ECONOMIC HARDSHIP FOR YOUR BUSINESS:

If your business is experiencing economic hardship related to COVID-19, a new tax credit may help. See #IRS FAQs on the Employee Retention Credit at irs.gov/coronavirus #COVIDreliefIRS

CONCERNING SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS AND THE STIMULUS PAYMENT:

Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file to receive an economic impact payment. It’s automatic. More information from #IRS at irs.gov/coronavirus #COVIDreliefIRS
